Ironically (after my last post) I just my WHS just filled up.. because it hadn’t been cleaning out old backups correctly.  In view of the fact it saved our bacon, I’ll forgive it this small transgression.  However, if you need to reset the database.. here is how:

Run mstsc.exe to start a Remote Desktop Connection session to your home server.

2. Open a Command Prompt, Click Start, Run and type CMD

3. Type net stop PDL.

4. Type net stop WHSBackup to stop the Windows Home Server Backup service.

5. Delete the contents of D:\folders\{00008086-058D-4C89-AB57-A7F909A47AB4}.  Do not delete the folder.

6. Type net start WHSBackup to restart the Windows Home Server Backup service.

7. Type net start PDL.

After deleting the backup database, you need to reinstall the Windows Home Server Connector software or run the Discovery.Exe program on each of your home computers to re-establish a relationship between your home computers and your home server so new backups will occur.

Thanks - this just saved me a huge amount of time after one of my disks failed, taking the computer backups with it! Kind of disapointed that the WHS console doesn't deal with this sort of issue for you...

You might want to edit and remove the full stop at the end of line 3 & 7 as anyone using copy paste or direct transcribe will have an error. Otherwise you have the perfect answer. Shame on MS for not providing an easy link to this remedy. Shame on them for putting out a crap part of WHS.

Dude, I can't thank you enough. I had 2 TB of old backups and couldn't figure out how to free up the space. I was ready to blow up the box and start over!! I owe you!
